Exhibition statement:
“Scroll Down is a large scale, collaborative work on paper by British artists Charlie Dutton and Celyn Bricker. The piece was made over the duration of the exhibition The British Society of Self Deprecation: works by British Artists on Paper, where it functioned as a sketchbook for the artists, an installation that responded to the architecture of the gallery, and also a form of performance for those who watched it being created. The final ‘performance’, and conclusion of the work, will be when it is cut up and sold by the square inch. The audience can choose the sections they would like to cut and take away, giving the audience control over the final form of the artwork. By selling their artwork cheaply, the artists are offering a kind of affordable art; they are also removing the often-exaggerated seriousness that is usually attached to both the production and sale of art.”
