YH (《银瑚》) is an AI generated artwork that explores our experience of nature as imagined by a machine. By analysing the form and colours of coral reefs, the AI creates a continually shifting, artificially imagined underwater landscape, that alters as humans approach the scene. Real coral reefs – which are profoundly under threat due to human activity – are exceptionally complex networks of interdependent elements, and in fact have some similarity with way in which certain AI networks function. YH makes a direct point about mankind’s interference with the natural world, whilst also imagining the machine itself to be an extension of that natural world, not wishing to be disturbed.
