Built in a Day

I had been invited to submit an installation for an exhibition featuring either artists who had lived in Italy or Italian artists. I had plans for a particular installation; the day or so prior to opening however, there was news of the destruction of the Monumental Arch of Palmyra (Roman in origin). I decided to hastily build an alternative installation over the course of a single day, and paint a fragmented image across the cloth of that recently destroyed Roman ruin.

The proverb is right: some things cannot be built in a day. Sadly, however, a day can often be all that is needed to destroy them.
